Taylor T3 with Bigsby (退掉了)

Taylor T3B Semi Hollowbody Electric Guitar with Case and Bigsby

Taylor's T3B Semi Hollow Electric continues quest to expand the range of tones available to the electric player.

Inspired by both the T5 and the SolidBody, they've taken the classic semi-hollowbody sound and applied our signature Taylor design and tonal touches, blending their high-definition Style 2 pickups with a coil-splitting application to give players killer humbucker and single coil sounds in one guitar. A push-pull tone knob brings two sweeping modes of tone control. They've also paired a Bigsby tailpiece with a roller bridge on the T3B model, giving players a high-performance vibrato bar without the pitch issues.

What's great about the T3 is the way it soups-up a semi-hollowbody's essential sound, transforming it into a hotrod guitar capable of a wider range of tones as a result of Taylor pickups, coil-splitting, and unique tone control. All on top of signature Taylor traits you can always count on, like superb intonation and easy playability.

Taylor T3B Features
  • Style 2 HD (high definition) humbucker pickups
  • Bigsby with a roller bridge
  • Volume and tone knobs with push/pull pots
  • Sapele body and neck with a Maple top
  • Includes Deluxe Hardshell Case
Pickups
The T3B pickups feature a pair of the same full-size, Style 2 HD (high definition) humbuckers used on the SolidBody Standard. A three-way switch covers three standard configurations: full neck, neck/bridge and full bridge. A twist was added using old-school coil-splitting. Pulling up on the volume knob activates a coil splitter, which in effect turns the humbuckers into single coils.

Tailpiece
For Taylor in the case of the Bigsby, pairing it with a roller bridge was the key to achieving smooth functionality. Traditionally, Bigsbys are attached to fixed bridges, and as they work, the notched strings drag across a hard point. The T3's Bigsby/roller bridge combo eliminates the problems associated with fixed bridges and tuning stability.

Push/Pull Control Knobs
The T3B volume and tone knobs both utilize push/pull pots, which give players two tiers of unique tone control. Pulling up on the volume knob activates a coil splitter, which in effect turns the humbuckers into single coils. The three-way switch functions the same way, allowing you to choose between full neck, neck/bridge and full bridge single coil tones. In its down position, the tone knob functions much like it does on the SolidBody, boosting the mids. Pulling up the knob engages a second capacitor, which mellows the tone without squashing it into a muddy sound. Within that tonal range is a fresh Taylor electric voice: a mellow, old-school jazz tone that's loaded with warmth and fatness. And there's a lot of cool rock tones in-between.

Body/Neck Design
The sapele T3B body is designed as a semi-hollowbody electric. The body is hollowed out like the T5, except for a solid block of wood that runs down the length of the center. Unlike the T5, the T3B has no acoustic bracing inside it. The quilted maple top is laid directly on top of the internal block like the Taylor SolidBody. The sapele neck incorporates Taylor's rock-solid single-bolt T-Lock(TM) just like the T5 and SolidBody, and a precisely milled pocket spacer is used to secure the perfect neck angle. Another departure from the T5 is the T3B's use of beefier electric-style frets, giving electric players a familiar feel.

T3/B=The Perfect Package

3/17/2009
Our new T3/B is not only gracing the cover of the April issue of Premier Guitar, it earned PG’s highest rating (5.0) and a Premier Gear Award.

“The T3/B is not a ‘jack of all trades, master of none,’ but rather a well-thought-out instrument that plays great, sounds fantastic and looks incredible,” reviewer Steve Ouimette declares early on. He loved the “comfortable and fast-playing” neck, which he says “combined the best of all neck shapes into one, and lent itself to just about any style of playing.”

Ouimette appreciated how the fine design touches contributed to the playing experience: “…even the detail of the volume and tone knobs is brilliant…they feel better than any guitar I’ve played in my life. The taper of both knobs is smooth and controlled, and they exhibit a weight to them that feels fantastic and deliberate when rolling them up or down.”

Moving on to the pickups and tonal flavors, Ouimette liked the “clean and articulate” sound of the Style 2 HD humbuckers. “They’re incredibly versatile and worked well through every amp I played them on.” Then he discovered the “tonal magic” in the coil-splitting function. Pulling up the volume knob, he writes, “allowed me to dial in just the right amount of heft or leanness, depending on my needs.” He also loved how many different tonal flavors the tone control was capable of tapping. “This is one of those rare guitars that doesn’t necessarily have a stock setting to it, he says. “I ended up using every combination of pickup, coil tap and tone variation. It was amazing to hear one guitar shine in so many different ways.”

Ouimette calls the Bigsby setup (with the roller bridge) “by far the best of its kind that I’ve used.” He says he had no tuning problems whatsoever, and “the travel of the vibrato is ultra-smooth and controlled.”

“Taylor seems to have pulled out all the stops on the T3/B, since it effortlessly excels in musical styles ranging from rock to blues to jazz, and yet never feels out of place,” Ouimette says in his wrap. “Somehow Taylor has figured out a way to incorporate style, class and functionality into the perfect package.” You can read the full review at premierguitar.com.

Hallmark 60 Custom (Sold)

Mosrite
