1989 PRS Standard 24 in Red

1989 PRS Standard 24, (front/back), (headstock). Nice old PRS - cool color Red Metallic - short heel, and all the other early features such as small logo, Standard Bass/Standard Treble pickups (picture), Mil-Com bridge, early PRS locking tuners, Brazilian fretboard, and Sweet Switch. Another cool feature on this one - Paul signed the control cover, which he used to do on any guitar upon request. Overall nice shape with just a little rash and a few imperfections in the clear coat. Worst flaw is the tips of the headstock had finish chips touched up (pic here), quite professionally, and it's barely noticeable, plus a little finish flaking around the low-e bushing; nothing major. The Standard 24 is probably my favorite guitar PRS ever made, and its roots go back to the original "PRS Guitar", before they had designations such as Custom, Standard, Studio, etc. The way the pickups are aligned on the scale are much better at hitting harmonics and the overall tone always sounds more complex than the 22-fret models. With an all mahogany body, you get a very warm and fat tone that makes practicing alone more enticing, and sounds more like a several guitars playing in unison than a single guitar. Neck carve appears to be the "Standard" carve, in between a thin and fat and it's a great feeling neck.

Some of Paul's earliest hand built guitars had mahogany necks and one piece mahogany bodies, 24 frets and tremolo bridges. They established him as a guitar maker and paved the way to our present position as one of the world's top manufacturers of fine electric guitars. The original guitars Paul made by hand are now highly prized collectors pieces, but the model which evolved from them has been in unbroken production to this day. It's called the Standard 24. The neck has the Regular profile, with the Wide-Thin as an option, and HFS and Vintage Bass pickups. It comes with a patented tremolo system and locking tuners for tuning stability and rich tone. To celebrate the upcoming 20th anniversary of PRS Guitars, the company will be offering a distinctive "birds-in-flight" inlay on Custom 22 and Custom 24 models. 2001 PRS Single Cut in Gold Top

PRS has always wanted to make a single cutaway guitar, so when they were ready they turned to their friend, Ted McCarty for guidance and inspiration. After all, it was Ted who introduced the very first carved top, solid body, single cutaway to the world, back in 1952.

In 1998 PRS released their "Singlecut" guitar, which bore some resemblance to the venerable Les Paul, Gibson Guitar Corp filed a trademark infringement against Paul Reed Smith. An injunction was ordered[ and PRS stopped manufacture of the Singlecut in 2000. Federal District Court Judge William J. Haynes, in a 57-page decision ruled "that PRS [Paul Reed Smith] was imitating the Les Paul" and gave the parties ninety days "to complete any discovery on damages or disgorgement of PRS's profits on the sales of its offending Singlecut guitar.PRS 2001 Single Cut in Gold Top (Pre lawsuit)
