In 1996, Fender released a limited edition Ventures Tribute Guitars (Jazzmaster, Stratocaster and Jazz Bass) in black burst color. All these guitars were made in Japan. Only a few had been distribututed into the US. According to Fender Customer Service, only a very small numbers were sold in the US: Jazzmaster 154; Stratocaster: 159; Jazz Bass: 134
I got this Jazzmaster directly from Tim Wilson (Don Wilson's son). This was what he wrote:
This is a 1996 Fender Ventures Model collectors item Jazz Master guitar, made to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Fender guitar company. The serial number is 30021 (which means it's the 21th ever made), the 3 signifies the Jazz Master series for Fender. This is the gold package meaning all the hardware is gold. The guitar is signed with a quality gold metallic permanent marker and compliments the gold hardware. It's brand new, never played, mint condition, and in the original Fender hard shell guitar case and cardboard shipping box. It still has the plastic protection on the pick guard. This Jazz Master guitar is signed by Don, Bob, Nokie, Gerry, and Leon. The Ventures have been inducted into the R&R Hall of Fame this year, and next year is their 50th anniversary of continuous recording and touring. The Ventures are the top selling instrumental band in recorded history with over 110 million records sold and 250 albums released world wide. For more information about The Ventures, visit www.theventures.com. This is the 21st Jazz Master guitar made in this collection, and a very special and rare collectible. A must have for any guitar collector
